About This Service

What Is a Certificate of Origin?

A Certificate of Origin (CoO) is an official international trade document certifying the country in which the goods being exported were wholly obtained, produced, or processed. It is used by customs authorities in the importing country to determine applicable tariffs, verify country of origin requirements, and ensure compliance with trade agreements.

Without a valid Certificate of Origin, your exported goods will be held at the point of entry by foreign customs authorities. The document must accompany your shipping documentation for every export consignment.

Important Notice

OCCIMA is the only body authorised to issue Certificates of Origin for exporters based in Owerri. Without this document, your goods cannot be exported.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. A valid and current OCCIMA membership is a mandatory requirement for Certificate of Origin applications. OCCIMA is authorised to issue Certificates of Origin exclusively for its registered members. If you are not yet a member, you can apply at join.html.
A Certificate of Origin is valid for the specific shipment for which it is issued. It does not have an ongoing expiry date, but it is tied to the commercial invoice and packing list submitted with the application. Each export consignment requires a separate Certificate of Origin.
You can submit your application using the online form on this page. However, original documents (CAC certificate, commercial invoice, packing list) must either be submitted in person or delivered to the OCCIMA Secretariat at FSP Park, Owerri, before your certificate can be processed.
If your goods contain components from multiple countries, the Certificate of Origin will specify the country of substantial transformation, i.e., the country where the goods underwent their most significant processing. Our team will advise you on the correct country of origin declaration based on your specific goods.
Certificates can be collected in person at the OCCIMA Secretariat. For urgent cases, you may arrange for a courier at your own expense. We do not currently offer digital certificate delivery, as the physical document with the official seal and signature is required by most customs authorities.
